What Is an Integrated Roof?
An integrated roof is a structural roof panel that sits on top of a car hoist or car stacker platform when the platform is in its uppermost position. When the car parking equipment is lowered to the basement or lower level, the roof remains at street or garage level and becomes integrated with the surrounding driveway or floor surface, effectively hiding the fact there is a car lift or car stacker below.
To the eye, it appears as a continuous, solid surface rather than an exposed shaft or mechanical opening. For many residential and commercial projects, this design option provides both aesthetic and practical advantages.
To further enhance performance, a built-in drainage system is incorporated into the roof design to manage water runoff, control water ingress, and help keep the lift and shaft dry. This improves reliability, reduces maintenance, and protects internal components over the long term.
Without roof integration, designers often need additional grilles, shutters, or covers, which can detract from the architectural intent.
Transitioning Roof
For projects with low ceiling heights or long vertical travel distances, designers can use a transitioning roof as the integrated roof.
In this configuration, the roof separates (or transitions) from the hoist or stacker platform once it reaches street or garage level. The roof remains in place to maintain a closed and finished surface, while the platform continues travelling further down to the parking level below.
This design approach provides architects and designers with greater freedom, while maintaining a clean appearance and full functionality of the car parking system.
